Meetings: When and what to expect

We generally host two events each month: a rope jam on the third Sunday and a class on the fourth Sunday. This may vary occasionally, particularly around Kinkfest (March or April), when many of us have other commitments. All of our events are posted to Fetlife, and the vast majority can also be found on our calendar on Forbidden Tickets. The few exceptions are rope jams that don’t require a ticket purchase, typically outdoors in the summer months. Our newsletter is always a good option to stay informed of our upcoming events.

To serve a diverse community with a variety of needs, we aim to provide similar diversity in our offerings. Our classes target different levels of experience in rope, and vary from shorter workshops to intensives to less-formalized skillshares. We intentionally work to seek out new instructors regularly to provide a diverse set of perspectives in our classes. As there is no perfect venue for rope in town, we alternate between a few locations in inner SE Portland; these spaces have different levels of accessibility and not all have hardpoints for suspension. Some of our events require face masks, while others don’t (but masks are always welcome if not required). Details about all of these for each event, including detailed accessibility write-ups for the venue, can be found on the event listing.

Unlike a structured class, our rope jams are free-form events to practice and learn rope. Each jam starts with an introduction circle. Folks can introduce themselves, share pronouns, and let everyone know where they are on their rope journey if they choose. It’s fine to just say hi and wave if you don’t want to share more. This is a great time to let the group know if you are attending alone and are open to finding a tying partner for the meeting. It is also totally fine to chat or just sit back and hang out in a ropey space. We have a small amount of loaner rope and safety gear available, as well as a collection of rope books. So, don’t let a lack of rope, gear, or ideas stop you from joining us at a jam!

We are working to build a strong rope community that de-centers the cis - male, white, hetero experience and brings more diversity into our local rope scene.

We hope to see you there.
