We meet every third Sunday of the month (aside from Kinkfest month, which may be different) from 4 to 6 PM. We currently meet at a inner SE location on the second floor (exact location shared with attendees prior to the meeting). Unfortunately the building does not have an available elevator. There are about 5 steps at the entrance and then approximately 20 open back stairs (with a hand rail) to reach the second floor. We are currently looking for a more accessible space. Greeters are usually available at the door (and can be pre arranged to be sure to be there) for anyone that would like someone to walk the stairs with them.
Each meeting starts with an introduction circle. Folks can introduce themselves, share pronouns, and let everyone know where they are on their rope journey if they choose. It’s fine to just say hi and wave if you don’t want to share more. This is a great time to let the group know if you are attending alone and are open to finding a tying partner for the meeting. It is also totally fine to self tie or just sit back and hang out in a ropey space. We have a small amount of loaner rope and safety gear so if you don’t have rope or gear yet, don’t let that stop you.
We will have a topic for the class and someone leading the topic. Topics may include specific ties, rope handling, safety, rope basics, vetting rope partners, and many more. We would love for folks to offer suggestions for future topics and we will do our best to find someone with experience to share.
The meeting will have ample time for practicing the skill and asking questions. In most classes we have a mix of newer and more experienced rope folks and the more experienced folks are happy to help and answer questions for newer rope people. We strive to make our meetings less focused on a teacher delivering a topic and more of a peer to peer skill share feel. After the specific topic is covered there is often time to continue to practice, ask for help with another tie you are working on, socialize, or just sit and chill.
We are working to build a strong rope community that de-centers the cis - male, white, hetero experience and brings more diversity into our local rope scene.
We hope to see you there.
